Water Polo is sort of like hand ball, in the water (without touching the ground), and alot more aggressive...

The first thing you need to know is that you can only ever touch the ball with one hand. You can use either hand, but only one at a time. The game consists of 4 quarters, each aroun 6-8 minutes long, depending on the league.

The game starts with a swim off. All the players from each team (on opposite ends of the pool) have to be touching the wall, and when the ref blows the whistle, they drop the ball in the middle of the pool and both teams swim to get it. The play goes on from here.

The point of the game is, obviously, to score on the other team's net. It is legal for a player to do whatever they want to you (this is where it gets aggressive) while you have the ball, but as soon as you drop it (this is a foul), they aren't allowed.

those are the very basic rules...It's a very fun sport, and i would suggest it to any strong-ish swimmers looking for an exciting sport :)
