If you were to come home with your dog from over seas to Australia what happens to the dog how long would your dog have to stay in quarantine?

The restrictions on bringing a dog into Australia depend on which country the dog is coming from. There are six categories of countries and different periods for each.

Category 1: (New Zealand) No quarantine period,

Cocos (Keeling) Islands: No Australian quarantine period

Norfolk Island: No Australian quarantine period

Category 2: Minimum 30 days in Australian quarantine

Category 3A: 60 days in Australian quarantine

Category 3B: 60 days in Australian quarantine

Category 4: Quarantine period varies in Australia

Category 5: (South Africa) Minimum of 210 days in quarantine

Category 6: Non approved countries: dogs may not be brought directly from these countries but may be able to be brought via Another Country with a suitable period of residence in that other country.
