The first thing I would do is to take the shift lever cover off to make shure it is not broken. Then crawl under the car to make shure the linkage is not broken where it connects to the shifter under the car. next i would look at the top of the transmission on the driver to check the other end of the linkage. if the linkage moves when you shift gears then the problem is in the transmisssion. At that point push it down a hill into the weeds and buy a new car.
