- Suppose you went to a bar with friends where the custom is for each friend to buy drinks for everyone in turn. If you accepted a drink each time it was someone else's turn to buy and then left the bar, perhaps to go home, when it was your turn to buy, then you would be stiffing the others.
- Suppose you went to a restaurant where it was the custom to give a gratuity to waiters, especially if they were especially helpful, and you were given Excellent service. If at the end of the meal you left a very small or no tip or gratuity then you would be stiffing the waiter.
