Methods used in 'Flight into Egypt' by Giotto?

This painting is one scene of many which Giotto painted on the walls of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. They are fresco paintings (buon fresco), which means that pigments are dissolved in water and applied on wet plaster on a wall. When the plaster dries the colors are joined with the surface.
