Where is the coolant temperature sensor location for 2.8L DOHC engine for VW Passat?

Looking at the engine from the front of the car, the sensor will be on the left hand side, rear of the engine, mounted on the coolant rail. It should be just underneath the Air intake coupling where it meets the engine.
