In most places you will need to graduate High School and then graduate from a trade school or mechanic training program in order to be a certified mechanic. The requirements to graduate from High School will vary by your state and by district. Getting a college education is especially important if you plan to run your own shop because you will need business training as well as mechanic training.

I would recommend graduating from high school and then asking at a local community college what kinds of business degrees and mechanic training programs they offer.
