tattoos and their acceptance have waxed and waned for decades. visible tattoos post World War 2 were generally accepted as long as the wearer conducted himself well. it was accepted because of the nature of the nation at the time, there was simply more to worry about.
now, practically everyone has one [i have 6] so theres not alot of people to try to hold the door closed anymore. like it or not, they're here to stay: however getting sleeved out is still not suggestible.
