What did Pereira Williams have to do with the miners federation in south wales?

Pereira Williams is my great, great grandfather. He was an active member (and possibly a founder) of the miners federation in south Wales. From what I understand of family history, he and other members of the family were classed as trouble makers and banned from working at most mines. Any Q's karlos_evans@hotmail.co.uk.
