In what ways do negative people affect those around them in the work place?

Negative people instill in those around them a more sober view of this dark world, contrasting with baseless cheeriness exhibited by many who are regarded as positive. Of course, being negative about things that have a whole stack of positive merits leaves them marked as a target for being fired first, which probably means they are among the few people who knows what is going on in the organisation.
