Two big parts to this problem:

1) Where can you find a replacement element? I've been looking high and low but so far no luck in finding a source. Only possibility is to find another used toaster oven for parts. In my case, the element is 3/16" by ~10" and is wired as two elements in series, making it a 60v element.

2) The element connections are usually spot-welded. I assume regular (low temp electrical) solder, besides containing lead, might risk melting. I've read one mention of using silver solder, as you would in copper pipe fittings, but I'm not sure this would avoid melting. My guess is that it would, but that's just a guess. I can also imagine using wire wrapping to make the electrical connection and maybe this could even give a solid mechanical connection.
