Why did the first nations not want confederation?

Many First Nations opposed Confederation in 1867 because they feared it would lead to the erosion of their sovereignty and land rights. They were concerned that joining Canada would undermine their self-governance and control over their territories, as they had existing treaties and relationships with the British Crown.
