Japan officially changed the name of Manchuria to Manchukuo in 1932, following its invasion and subsequent establishment of a puppet state in the region. This name change was part of Japan's efforts to legitimize its control over the territory and to promote the idea of Manchukuo as an independent nation, despite being heavily influenced and controlled by Japan. The name Manchukuo was used until the end of World War II in 1945.
