Why does your hornby locomotive stop at random points on the track?

this can be due to two main causes,

dirt on the wheels

dirt on the track

if it works and stops in the same place all the time just get either a track rubber or a peice of emery paper and wipe over the track a few times, or you can clean the wheels with emery paper
