Since new stereotypes are often coming about, I decided to list familiar ones that I have been aware of since 2007. A lot of these are not limited to America. I apologize if this list is too vague. I try not to use stereotypes or generalizations.
Prep/Preppy - Rich and spoiled. They often follow trends and wear brand name clothing like Hollister, Aeropostal, etc. Not familiar with work. They are obsessed with congregating at shopping centers. Very snobby.
Jock- An athlete who picks on the less popular kids, plays multiple sports and scores a less than average I.Q score.
Nerd/Geeks - Very smart and passionate people. They often get the short end of the stick in public schooling due to lack of popularity. You may see nerds/geeks in clubs such as debate club, math team, band, Chess club, drama, etc.
Emo - The stereotype for the "emo" appearance is skinny jeans, black shirts/band t-shirts, Converse shoes, bangs cut into a side-sweep and very thick black eyeliner. Other stereotypes for emo kids include them cutting themselves, listening to Hawthorne Hights, crying or hanging out at Hot Topic.
Hipster- The term is fairly new but the character traits of a hipster have been around for many years. Hipsters, in an outside view, are very obsessed with the idea of being the first to experience any possible trend just to say they did it first. Another stereotype for Hipsters is that they are wealthy, how else would they afford to constantly update everything they own. Hipsters often wear skinny jeans, knit hats (even in the summer) and, the now very famous, Hipster glasses. You might be able to notice a Hipster by their using the Words "..before it was cool." You might also be familiar with the term "indie" which may also be connected to hipster.
Liberal - The term is very different in certain counties but in America it is a political term used to describe the group of people who are fond of moving forward. Therm is often followed with terms like "tree-hugging", "feminist" or "Atheist". Liberals are people that, ideally, want everyone to have equal rights and be happy. Moving forward instead of back.
Conservative- Conservatives are the complete opposite of Liberals. Conservatives are more comfortable with traditional ways of living. This can often be problematic for anyone who is not Christian, white, heterosexual, female or white. Conservatives are often against ideas such as gay rights, abortion, Atheism, or socialism.
