How long does the shooter get to shoot in a nhl shootout?

In an NHL shootout, each shooter has up to 3 seconds to attempt their shot once they cross the designated blue line. The shootout consists of a series of one-on-one attempts between the shooter and the opposing goalie, with each team alternating shooters.
