Typical values for P-wave velocities within the Earth are between 5 and 8 km/s.

However the velocity is dependent on the elastic properties and density of the material through which the wave is travelling.

The P-Wave velocity (VP) can be found using the following:

VP = Sqrt((K+ (4/3 x G)) /P)

Where:

K = Bulk modulus

G = Shear modulus

P = Density
