Football fish, which belong to the deep-sea anglerfish family, primarily inhabit the deep ocean, typically at depths of 200 to 2,000 meters (about 660 to 6,600 feet). They are not found near the ocean's surface, as they thrive in dark, cold environments where they have adapted to their unique hunting and feeding strategies. Their bioluminescent lure helps attract prey in these deep-sea habitats.
