It's not the amount or proportion of carbs that matter; it's the total calories consumed.
Since it takes 3,500 calories to gain or lose a pound, if you take in 500 fewer calories per day than you burn up (through exercise and just being alive) you will lose about a pound per week.
At 4 calories per gram of carbohydrate, that means cutting out the equivalent of 125 grams of carbs per day.
But here's a helpful tip: at 9 calories per gram, fat contains more than double that amount. So its probably easier to lose weight by reducing fats than by reducing carbs.
