The Glorious Revolution of 1688 saw King James II of England flee the country and abandon his crown. Faced with rising opposition due to his Catholicism and attempts to increase royal power, he fled to France as William of Orange, invited by Parliament, landed with an army to seize the throne. This event ultimately led to the establishment of constitutional monarchy in England and the Bill of Rights in 1689.
