What is Tlacopan?

Founded by Tlacomatzin, Tlacopan was a http://www.answers.com/topic/tepanec kingdom subordinate to nearby http://www.answers.com/topic/azcapotzalco. Tlacopan sided with http://www.answers.com/topic/tenochtitlan and http://www.answers.com/topic/texcoco-altepetl in their conquest of Azcapotzalco, becoming a member of the http://www.answers.com/topic/aztec-triple-alliance which formed the nucleus of the http://www.answers.com/topic/aztec Empire. The ruler of Tlacopan, Totoquihuaztli, then took the title Tepaneca tecuhtli, "Lord of the Tepanecs" (probably taken from the rulers of Atzcapotzalco). Tlacopan was to remain a junior partner in the alliance, receiving only a fifth of the tribute gained from joint campaigns with its more powerful allies.
