Car made a knocking sound under it until i gave it gas then made it to 55mph then it cut off its getting gas in engine and cranking but wont start what could be wrong?

Any number of things.... I'll start with the easiest fixes.. Low or no oil----Timing belt or chain----bent or broken cam shaft----very bad lifters----blown head----or possibly a busted transmission
