To change the brake lights on a 2004 Toyota Prius, first, open the trunk and remove the two plastic covers on the inside of the trunk, which protect the tail light assembly. Next, unscrew the nuts holding the tail light assembly in place and gently pull it out. Disconnect the wiring harness from the assembly, then twist the brake light bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it. Replace the old bulb with a new one, reassemble everything by reversing the steps, and test the brake lights to ensure they work.
