To describe who you are in an essay, you could include little bits about your:

  • biological heritage (race, gender)
  • culture and cultural beliefs
  • religious upbringing
  • physical appearance
  • best physical quality, in your opinion
  • thinking and beliefs
  • unique qualities

Example:

Though my mother tells stories about my red-headed curls when I was very little, by age 8 I sported straight brown hair. With my pale skin, blue eyes, and with reddish brown eyebrows, my dark brown hair caused a lot of teasing at school. My father says I developed a strong sense of humor to deal with the bullying. I would rather joke about my hair color than get upset about the teasing. My mother likes to say I got my "funny bone" from my great-Aunt Martha but I think I developed it after reading a book about Pippi Longstocking. Pippi thinks differently than other kids (and adults) and doesn't let other people decide who she is or is not. I like to think I'm a little bit like Pippi, in fact, much like her.
