Who receives the insurance check once the car's damage has been estimated?

It is YOUR choice. You can have the check sent directly to you, or to the shop of your choice. I have been in a couple of very minor fender benders, so minor you could barely notice the damage, so I just told the insurance company to send me the check then I pocketed it. Some companies try to talk you out of it, just stick to your guns.
