The Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons is an organization, a "regulatory body" representing doctors who practice conventional medicine. Typically, conventional doctors are not trained in forms of alternative medicine, and do not advocate for alternative medicine use, however; more and more healthcare practitioners support an ecological approach to health and well-being. The weight of scientific evidence supporting all forms of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is relatively limited, although new research is being conducted to expand evidence based medicine protocols to more thoroughly examine the effectiveness of homeopathic treatment and other CAM therapies. Currently, homeopathy is a regulated health profession in the Province of Ontario, under the Health Professional Advisory Council and the Ministry of Health. A Homeopath is a healthcare practitioner defined by law in the Province of Ontario, although the practice of homeopathy itself is currently being developed by a new regulatory college. Since conventional doctors are not typically involved in training or licensing of other CAM professionals, there support for or against a treatment regime may depend upon there own practice experience, individual training and cultural background. Homeopathy is a standard form of physician training in many countries outside Canada.
