Due to hunting for food and pelt, as well as hunting for sport; certain deer like the black musk deer, key deer and caribou (a species of deer) are endangered.

Other reasons including being hit by cars and in some cases being driven from their homes and starving in new surroundings have driven species like the key deer to just 300-800 members left.

The caribou or reindeer, as a species, is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.

Although some races are in some trouble, and at least one has gone extinct, the caribou as a species remains fairly numerous and not listed as an endangered species.
