How can you tell if a guy is trying to be cool?

You can always tell how a guy is trying to be cool.

Example: One day you see a guy who is new in the school. He's alone. But not for long. Before you know it he's showing off in front of the "cool crowd" and really, is lying. He pretends that he likes Skateboarding, like the "cool crowd," but he'd rather read a good novel instead. You ask him, "Why do you show off in front of those bullies?" he says, "I don't wanna be a loner." Really. That is what they are scared of. Not being popular. You can always tell how a guy is trying to be cool.
