1. Automatic Code Search

     Turn on the first device you want to program to the Gemstar remote control.

     Hold down the button you want to program, for example "DVD," while holding the "ON/OFF" button until the red indicator light comes on. The remote control is now in programming mode.

     Point the Gemstar remote control at the device and press the "Play" button. The indicator light will blink for approximately five seconds as it searches the first group of codes.

     Press the "Play" button after the indicator light stops blinking to check the first group of codes. Continue doing this until the device powers down.

     Push the "Reverse" button and wait approximately 2 seconds. Continue doing this until the device turns on again.

     Save the code setting by pressing and holding the "Stop" button until the indicator light stops blinking.

     Repeat Steps 1 to 6 for each device you want to program to the Gemstar remote control.

     Review the last page of the RCA Gemstar remote control user manual. This page has a list of device manufacturers. Look up your device's manufacturer to find the remote codes for your device.

     Turn on the device you want to program to the remote control.

     Press and hold the button you want to program, such as "SAT/CABLE," and use the keypad on the remote control to enter the first code from the list.

     Release the button you want to program and press the "ON/OFF" button to see if the programmed code worked. The device should shut off if the code was successful.

     Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with the next code on the list until you find a code that operates the device.

     Program the rest of the devices you want controlled by the Gemstar universal remote control by repeating Steps 1 to 5.
