Double bass, also known as the upright bass, string bass, or contrabass, is used in orchestras and is the lowest pitched string instrument in an orchestra. It is played upright, while it is resting on the ground as the neck (the part where you place your fingers) extends past the head. It is tuned in fourths unlike the violin, which is tuned in fifths, and is used for numerous genres not only for classical, but for jazz, bluegrass, blues, and more.
