Art is a tricky subject. You can go to art classes and learn painting techniques or learn how to draw, but that’s not going to transform you into an artist. A lot of how well you will do in art will depend on your natural talent. If you have absolutely no talent, you might not get very far, and you probably won’t enjoy it either. Given some talent, instruction can take you further, if you take advantage of it the right way.
Finding an art classes isn’t hard. If you’re still in high school, many art classes are probably offered. In college, unless you are going to major in art, you might only find a few basic classes. If you aren’t in school, you can probably find a class in local community centers. Take some time to search your community for something useful.
Be prepared for class. If you don’t have the right materials and you have no clue what’s going on, you will be lost and won’t be able to get everything out of class that you can. Art materials can be expensive. Look at art supply stores and use the cheap stuff. You are just starting out and you don’t need to use the same materials as Monet.
During class, listen to what you are instructed to do and do it. It’s just that simple. Ask questions when necessary, but make sure you actually begin painting, drawing, sketching, etc. You might start out small with drawing tests or they might have you jump right in. The main point is that the more you do and practice, the better you’ll get.
Art is just like many crafts and skills. You can develop your skills and work off your talent by practicing more and more. As they say, practice makes perfect. While there is no ’perfect’ art, by practicing, your work will become more beautiful, exquisite, unique, and expressive. After all, art is about expressing yourself. Whether you’re goal is to create beautiful art or funky art, taking the instruction you are given and practicing with it is the best way to move forward.
You don’t need to take art classes at all if you can’t afford them. Get some art books and teach yourself the techniques, or forgo technique and create your own style. Either way, as long as you love it, keep at it and you’ll get better.
