Carlos the Jackal, whose real name is Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, was imprisoned in several locations over the years. He is most notably incarcerated in France, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1997 for his role in multiple terrorist attacks. He has been held at the French prison of Clairvaux, among others, during his time in custody.
