Mitsubishi shogun 2.5 turbo diesel Black smoke lack of power then cut out now wont start?

Pulling horse box last night lacked power up hills and black smoke. On idle, kept dropping revs but kept going. After uncoupling car went fairly normal. This morning turns over but wont start.
