Where does the bikini originate from?

in the 1940s during WWII they needed to conserve cloth so they cut down the amount of cloth needed for a bathing suit, resulting in the bikini A Roman mosaic from Sicily which has been nicknamed the "Bikini Girls" depicts women of the Late Roman Empire wearing outfits very similar in concept to the bikini. The first bikini to be called such was in France in 1946, after WWII and when cloth was plentiful again. It was named after the US atomic bomb tests at Bikini Island in the same year. No models could be found who were willing to wear them, so French showgirls modeled the first bikinis. They were worn around the world, but women in the US considered them vulgar and did not begin to wear the bikini until the 1960's.
