Estafilococos, or staphylococci, are a group of bacteria commonly found on the skin and in the nasal passages of humans. They are non-spore-forming, Gram-positive cocci and can be either harmless or pathogenic. The most well-known species, Staphylococcus aureus, is associated with various infections, ranging from mild skin conditions to severe diseases like pneumonia and sepsis. These bacteria can be resistant to antibiotics, making some infections challenging to treat.
