Why is Alice polite?

The book is from Victorian times, and rich children like Alice generally where polite then. Also, Carrol wrote the book for his friend's daughter, and if he'd made her rude they wouldn't have liked it. It also works better if she is polite, because she discovers more about Wonderland by being polite to all the crazy people.
