There is only one Mesozoic era, or "Age of Reptiles," which began 252.2 million years ago and ended 65.5 million years ago. The Spinosaurus lived between 112 and 97 million years ago, during the Albian and then the Cenemonian stages of the Cretaceous period. The Cretaceous was the third and final period of the Mesozoic era.
