Nikki Giovanni is an acclaimed American poet, writer, and activist, born on June 7, 1943, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She became a prominent voice of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s, known for her powerful poetry that addresses themes of race, gender, and social justice. Giovanni has published numerous collections of poetry and received several awards, including a NAACP Image Award and the Langston Hughes Medal. In addition to her literary work, she is also a professor at Virginia Tech, where she teaches creative writing and literature.
