What did Upton Sinclair became famous for?

He was a Pulitzer Prize winning author. He wrote The Jungle which sold close to 150,000 copies in its first year (1906). He grossed the equivalent of $600,000 in todays money. Joined the case to free Sacco and Vanzetti in 1927. But he's mainly known for his writing.
