How was the red figure technique done?

The red-figure technique, developed in ancient Greece around the late 6th century BCE, involved painting figures in a red slip on a black-figure background. Artisans would first apply a black slip to the entire vase before using a fine brush to delineate the figures and details in the red clay underneath, which would remain visible after firing.
