Athenian soldiers, particularly hoplites, typically wore a short tunic called a chiton, often made of wool or linen. They also donned armor, including a bronze breastplate and a helmet, and carried a large round shield known as a hoplon. Footwear included sandals or sometimes went barefoot. Their attire was designed for both mobility and protection in battle.
