How do you get different Fruit on Animal Crossing City Folk?

Animal Crossing City Folk utilizes the use of Nintendo Wi-Fi connection to connect with others, as well as gaining fruit that is not native to your town.

Trading Friend Codes with users who have different fruit than you have and getting fruit from them is one way to get foreign fruit. One other way is to send a neighbor a letter with your towns native fruit attached to it along with a message asking for fruit, send it and wait for a reply.

The second method i haven't heard a lot of success stories about but i have heard of one user being able to get all foreign fruit using the second method which i found to being pretty remarkable since i have heard it can take quite a few tries.
