"Closeted" means the person is in denial about a particular aspect of him/herself, or chooses to not share that aspect with the general public. The difference between a closeted racist and a closeted gay person can be simplified as the difference between a racist and a gay person.

There are actually many differences between the two. A racist is a person who believes that the color of a person's skin can determine the intelligence, integrity or other personal characteristics of an individual; usually a racist believes that his/her own skin tone is superior to that of all other races.

A gay person is sexually attracted to people of the same gender as him/herself. Note - many evangelical or conservative Christians define a gay person as someone who has sex with another person of the same gender; this definition appears to be unique to the conservative wings of most major religions.
