Disregard the previous answerer, for two reasons:

1. Muslim is not an ethnic group.

2. Even if it was, Obama would not be a "pure Muslim". On his father's side, Obama is descended from the Luo ethnic group of Kenya and Tanzania (his father was a Kenyan-American), they are found in the southwest of Kenya. On his mother's side, he is descended from European-Americans. Dunham is an English name, and most of his European ancestors came from the British Isles. Obama is a Luo surname, while his mother's maiden name is Dunham, an English surname.
