The black-capped chickadee typically measures about 4.7 to 5.5 inches (12 to 14 cm) in length and weighs between 0.3 to 0.4 ounces (8 to 12 grams). This small songbird is easily recognized by its distinctive black cap and bib, white cheeks, and olive-gray wings and back. Their compact size makes them agile fliers, often found in wooded areas and backyards across North America.
