If you get arrested you should?

Exercise ALL of your rights and obey all lawful commands given.

-You should not answer ANY questions beyond your truthful name and date of birth.

-Don't be aggressive or abusive, and keep your hands in sight at all times.

-You should provide identification when asked.

-You should ask to speak to a lawyer.

-You should not give your consent to any searches, however you should never RESIST a search.

-You should not make any statements or sign any paperwork without legal advice. The only exceptions are for a summons/citation/ticket. These may require a signature simply to say you were served, and are not an admission of any guilt.

-If you are carrying a weapon (or anything sharp) you should inform the arresting officer right way so they can safely contain it. *Do not REACH for it!* Tell them where it is and let them get it.
