I can't understand why this vulgar nonsense was not filtered out by readers.

A cord of wood refers to a measure of a standard unit or quantity of firewood, cut in 4-foot lengths and stacked in a pile 4 x 4 x 8. This unit of measure is still in use today.

Originally from ancient French. My guess is that the woodpile was measured, a long, long time ago, in the forest or woodlot, by a 4-foot lightweight rope.
