How would you write some lines on World Earth Day?

Earth Day was started to bring awareness and appreciation for the Earth 's environment. It was founded by US. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Many communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. The first Earth Week was in Philadelphia in 1970. Earth Day Network is a group that wants to become the coordinator of Earth Day globally. They say that Earth Day is now observed on April 22 on almost every country on Earth.

More than 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day. This year, on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, over a billion people in over 180 nations will participate in Earth Day in one way or another. This means all those people will be doing something "green" that day. That means they will do something that will be good for the environment.

In the 1960's the environment's condition was not an issue that the government took any action in. Senator Nelson was fighting for the environmental issues but was failing until he came up with the idea of having the people protest against the government to take some action to clean up the environment. He wanted to have a huge "teach-in". By doing this the people finally was able to let government officials know how important the environment was to them. And that they wanted something done to help protect the air and the lakes, rivers and the entire environment. By the end of 1970, the US Environmental Protection Agency was created to improve and protect air and water quality. Today the EPA is in charge of protecting our total environment.
