PlayStation 2 game compatibility on the PlayStation 3 is as follows:
- The 20 GB model and the 60 GB model with model number CECHAxx can play PlayStation 2 games normally, as they have the full PlayStation 2 hardware contained in them.
- 60 GB and 80 GB models with model numbers CECHCxx and CECHExx are capable of playing some PlayStation 2 games via emulation. Compatibility is dependent on firmware updates from Sony.
- The 160 GB model, the 40 GB model, and 80 GB models with model numbers CECHKxx and CECHLxx have no emulation support and thus cannot play any PlayStation 2 games at all.
- All Slim models are incapable of playing PlayStation 2 games.
