Why are cocoa beans grown in poor countries but processed in rich countries?

It is more chance than anything related to rich and poor. Cocoa is grown where the soil and climate best suit the crop. Companies purchase the beans, process them and then sell the product. A processing company could be set up near where the beans are grown and shipped, but the cost and logistics may not be profitable enough to do so.
